1. Are lithium batteries considered hazmat for shipping?

Yes. Lithium batteries are classified as Class 9 Miscellaneous Dangerous Goods under international and national transportation regulations (such as the IATA DGR for air transport).
They are considered hazardous material (“hazmat”) for shipping because they pose a risk of:

  • Short Circuit: Which can lead to overheating.
  • Fire: If damaged, defective, or improperly packaged, they can catch fire.
  • Explosion: A fire can lead to a rapid release of energy.

Consequently, their shipment is strictly governed by specific packaging, labeling, documentation, and quantity restrictions based on the mode of transport (air, sea, ground).

2. Why is the shipping cost for lithium batteries higher?

Shipping costs for lithium batteries are high due to the significant risks and specialized handling they require.

The primary reasons are:

  • Hazardous Material (Dangerous Goods) Surcharges: Carriers add substantial fees to manage the inherent fire risk of lithium batteries.
  • Specialized Packaging: Mandatory use of non-conductive, fire-retardant, and damage-resistant packaging to prevent short circuits and thermal events.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Costs associated with required dangerous goods training, certified documentation, and specific labeling for each package.
  • Limited Carrier Options & Segregation: Fewer carriers accept lithium batteries, and they often must be stored separately, adding logistical complexity.

In short, the high cost directly reflects the safety measures needed to mitigate the risk of fire during transit.

How to Easily Wire the Daly BMS with Common Charging Discharging Port?

daly bms wiring diagram

Common Port Daly BMS Wiring

1. Connect the first balance wire (black) to the B- of battery; and connect the second balance wire (red) to the positive of the first cell, and connect the third balance wire (red) to the positive of the second cell, and so on, connect all the balance wires.

2. Use a multimeter to measure each voltage value of between every two balance wires respectively, to make sure each voltage value the same between the balance wires.

3. Get the BMS attached, measure and confirm the voltage value correct between the B- and the P- of the BMS, and plug the buckle of the balance wire in to the BMS.

4. Connect the B- (blue) of the BMS to the B- of the battery pack, and connect the P- of the BMS to the negative of the common charging/discharging port, and connect the positive of the battery pack to the positive of the common charging/discharging port.

5. Measure the total voltage value of the battery pack and the total output voltage value of the BMS, and make sure the two voltage values correct and equivalent.

How to Easily Wire the Daly BMS with Separate Charging Discharging Ports?

Separate Port Daly BMS Wiring

1. Connect the first balance wire (black) to the B- of battery; and connect the second balance wire (red) to the positive of the first cell, and connect the third balance wire (red) to the positive of the second cell, and so on, connect all the balance wires.

2. Use a multimeter to measure each voltage value of between every two balance wires respectively, to make sure each voltage value the same between two adjacent balance wires.

3. Get the BMS attached, measure and confirm the voltage value correct between the B- and the P- of the BMS, and plug the buckle of the balance wire in to the BMS.

4. Connect the B- (blue) of the BMS to the B- of the battery pack, and connect the P- of the BMS to the negative of the discharging port, and connect the C- of the BMS to the negative of the charging port, and connect the positive of the battery pack to the respective positive of charging and discharging port.

5. Measure the total voltage value of the battery pack and the total output voltage value of the BMS, and make sure the two voltage values correct and equivalent.

How to Reset Daly BMS?

Resetting a Daly BMS can often solve problems related to battery management and protection. Here are some methods that might help you reset your Daly BMS:

1. Charge your battery to full: Then, go to the bottom right of the screen and click "Parameter Settings". Click "cell characteristics", scroll down to "SOC Set", enter 100%, and click "set". It will ask for a password which is 123456.

2. Shorting method: Put a small load on the battery using P- and positive. Then, connect P- to B- creating a short to trick the Daly BMS into resetting itself.

Please remember to follow all safety precautions when working with batteries and electronic systems. If you're unsure, it's always best to consult with a professional or the manufacturer's guidelines.
